Grand Byram & Morris Canal History Day Celebration

Greater Byram and Morris Canal History Day at Waterloo Village

Waterloo Village is a restored 19th-century canal town in Byram Township, Sussex County in northwestern New Jersey. Waterloo Village, in the 19th Century, was part of Byram that included what is now Stanhope and Hopatcong Boroughs, and was approximately the half-way point in the approximately 102 miles long Morris Canal, which ran from Jersey City to Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

Waterloo Village Historic Site and Byram Township will be partnering to highlight the history of Byram at Waterloo to commemorate the 225th anniversary of Byram Township. The Canal Society of New Jersey and the Waterloo Methodist Church are invited to participate in the planning and the event day. Other participants with crafts, local foods, food trucks and music are to be invited. The day will include activities for children and a full schedule of interpretive tours about various historical trades, crafts, industries, and transportation systems throughout history.
